WPDL: Goal Thriller for U19s

Sundays game we welcomed Prestatyn town to the rock to what was GW3 in the WPDL.

Our first two league fixtures had seen us lose a close battle to TNS 1-0 at home and a well-earned draw away to flint town 1-1. It was Manager Josh Millington first home game as U19 manager and had made the message clear to his lads that a good performance and 3 points was needed to get their season going.

Matt Pritchard and Ben Dawson earned a starting position from their performance away to flint. Tom Williams was rested on the bench due to involvement with the U21 squad which allowed Tyler Wilkinson to step up and claim a place alongside Adrian Olzsweski. Harri-Lucas Jones, Kieron Smith and first team squad member Izzack Lambert started as a back 3 with Adam Jones behind them in goal.

Chris Craven, Luke Sussex and Ryan Davies made joined Matt Pritchard to make up the midfield. The U19s bench consisted of Toby Nash, Aran Evans, Keenan Bathers and Tom Williams. The lads had obviously took on the gaffers words and started well scoring 2 within the first 5 minutes through Ben Dawson and Tyler Wilkinson.

Prestatyn started to cause a few problems as the druids back 3 tried to settle into the game but Tyler Wilkinson and Adrian Olzsweski calmed some nerves by scoring in the 20th & 21st minute. Druids went into half time leading 4-0.

Druids started the second half poorly making stray passes and poor positional player, a few stern words from manager Josh Millington regained the lads concentration and we once again capitalised through Tyler Wilkinson on the 51st minute.

A great solo effort from Chris Craven seen him pick the ball up on the halfway line, dribble past three opposition players and drive the ball into the top-corner of the goal on the 61st minute.

Druids pounced quickly from the re-start and scored again through Adrian Olzsweski. The lads continued to look comfortable moving the ball around the pitch and creating attacking opportunities.

With 25 minutes to go, manager Josh Millington rewarded Aran Evans, Toby Nash and Keenan Bathers with their U19 league debuts, bringing Harri-lucas Jones, Kieron Smith and Ben Dawson off after pleasing performances from all three.

Tyler Wilkinson added to his tally in the 68th minute and Adrian Olzsweski completed his Hat-trick on the 72nd minute. Man of the Match Tyler Wilkinson then completed his double hat-trick in the 76th & 88th minute.

Druids finished the game 11-0.

Post-Match comments from Manager Josh Millington:

Im really pleased with how the lads performed today, individually and as a team. I showed the lads before the game the plan for the season and what my targets were for them as a squad and asked for them to deliver our first 3 points today and they did exactly that. I was a bit concerned at half time that we may get complacent and too confident as a team but I was quite impressed with how we reacted second half to my targets. It was nice to give debuts to Toby, Keen and Az and i'm sure they will now work hard in training to improve their fitness after being out for most of pre-season.
