Druids show their grit in spite of decisions
10 man Druids showed their grit and determination to hold on to a 0-0 draw with Llanelli Town AFC. Druids who have twice lost to Llanelli in phase 1 knew they were in for another hard fought game when ex-swansea and Premier League player Leon Britton stepped down from the coach at The Rock.
Druids who were missing Naim Arsan, due to international call up. Fielded and experienced side who would want to make sure the Ancients started Phase 2 in the best possible way. This came unstuck when star James Davies was taken off injured after an incident in the opening minutes. The first half continued in the vein with Llanelli getting the better of decisions but neither side looking like scoring.
Disaster struck when on the stroke of half time a commotion in the box ended with the referee giving Nathan Peate a straight red, a decision which left most present completely dumbstruck. After a half time talk a resistant Druids stepped out and turned out one of the most impressive defensive displays of this season. Denied penalty clear decisions, 10 man Druids continued to create opportunities throughout the second half until the whistle.
Following the match Huw Griffiths, Manager made his views clear :- "Kev has not turned up to have a bad game, and he is one of the better referees in the league, but he missed some key incidents."Their centre-half goes through James after the whistle has been blown and he's injured his hip and had to come off inside 10 minutes....Nathan is then adjudged to have thrown an elbow and he's the one to get sent-off...And we've also had two penalties, in the same phase of play, turned down...I genuinely believe the referee has disproportionately assessed the key match incidents, but I will review it and if I'm wrong, which I have been twice this season, I will apologise...Our fans in the main stand were chanting "you've got 12 men" and I've not heard that in seven years here."
Despite the result the crowd at the Rock could be proud of the boys who battled to secure the point, next up Druids are back on the road heading to Cardiff Met.
