Druids impress despite loss to Quay!
Druids headed into this game with a 'Free Pass' entertaining a top of the table side with an in form squad is never easy and Huw and the boys knew anything from this match would be a huge bonus in what has been a tough Phase 1. Nomads on the other hand couldn't afford to drop points as they hoped to strengthen their hold at the top of the JD Welsh Premier League.
The opening minutes of the game came as bad news for Druids as a high tempo Nomads had all the play and pressed hard, slowly the Ancients found their way into the game and the play became more open with pressure being applied by both sides with solid defensive displays to match. The half ended 0-0 but the football being played was bound to lead to goals.
The first goal was a stunning effort by Michael Bakare from 25 yards out just after the restart, but this was answered quickly with a long range rocket by Dean Rittenberg which got the crowd at The Rock to their feet. The game looked to be heading towards a draw.
A penalty was to be the difference after Kershaw brought down Holmes in the box and Callum Morris comfortably slotted it away. FT 2-1
Druids will rue missed opportunities throughout the game but the fans will have left the Rock in good spirits after enjoying a good game of football, the performance was spirited and warranted a point against a very good Connah’s Quay side.
The result leaves Druids languishing in 9th position with a tough Christmas fixture list to work towards taking on the current WPL champions.
