The Comeback Kings! Druids secure all 3 points!
A remarkable game away at Richmond Park saw Druids overcome a two goal deficit to stun Carmarthen.
James Davies’ late winner completed the turnaround for the Ancients, who have now opened up a seven point gap between us and the drop zone.
Druids dominated the opening period of play and did most of the early pressing in the game, but fell behind on the counter attack, as Luke Bowen’s cross was turned into his own net by Matty Owen.
That didn’t deter Huw's boys, who pressed again and racked up fourteen corners in the first half! Counter attacks seemed to be an Achilles Heel for Druids though, as the Old Gold made it two just before half time from another break.
This time it was Bowen on the end of the move, Tyrrell Webbe leading the breakout which the forward finished off with aplomb, smashing his shot in off the bar.
Druids needed a response, and Griffiths decided to change shape after the restart. Moving Alec Mudimu into the centre gave the Zimbabwe international more purpose, and it was his shot from distance that reduced arrears.
Moments before that though, Mael Davies could have finished the game, as he found himself one-on-one with Michael Jones after yet another counter attack, but the keeper saved well from his first time shot.
Having inadvertedly scored at one end, Owen brought things level with six minutes to play, smashing home from the edge of the D into the top corner.
That wasn’t the end of the drama though, as minutes later Mudimu played a great through ball into Davies, who stretched to poke home and ensure Druids left south-west Wales with all the points.
The much needed points give Druids a boost ahead of next weeks game against bottom of the table Llanelli, Huw will be hoping to clock up another win on the road which could again strengthen The Ancients leauge position.
