Late winner takes Druids 8th!

James Davies came off the bench to fire in a late late winner for Cefn Druids at home to Aberystwyth.

The game always looked likely to be decided by one goal, but for large spells of the second half it seemed destined to finish goalless as both sides cancelled the other out.

Davies though, returning from a nasty injury he picked up last month away at Cardiff Met, had other ideas, and his 25 yard curling shot four minutes from time left Aber 'keeper Terry McCormick no chance.

The goal vindicated Druids boss Huw Griffiths' decision to bring the front man on, with a change of shape made at the same time to two up top also seeing Druids take a bit more control of the game as it moved into the final quarter.

Aber certainly had chances though, particularly in the first half. Wes Baynes went close twice, first volleying onto the roof of Joel Thompson's net from the best part of 35 yards, then picking the ball up on the right, cutting inside and firing low from the edge of the area, forcing Thompson to parry behind.

In between those efforts Matty Owen had gone close for the home side, firing just wide, and Nathan Peate will be wondering how he didn't find the net on 14', when about nine yards out and free in the box, though McCormick did well to stop the initial effort, with Steffan Edwards on the line behind him to clear.

The Aber keeper was called into action again midway through the half, turning a Jordan Evans shot behind for a corner, from which Peate headed wide.

Aber took a bit of control then, Baynes again testing Thompson, before Piskorski beat the full back down the left and crossed in low for Rittenberg, who got a faint connection but couldn't steer the ball on target.

The second half saw little goalmouth action, as both sides struggled to impose themselves on the game initially. Evans went close with ten to play, letting fly from 25 yards and striking the post. Declan Walker then created a half chance after some good hold up play from Ashley Ruane, but fired straight at Thompson.

Moments later though, the goal came, as Naim Arsan played a ball up for Davies, who cut inside and curled home.

A much needed 3 points - takes the Ancients 8th!
