Druids left disappointed at Nantporth

Alex Darlington's deft flick from a Steven Hewitt corner on 15' was enough to separate the sides, despite a late rally from the Ancients.

A pacy opening to the game had yielded few clear chances when the midfielder struck, ghosting free of the Druids defence at the front post to flick home Hewitt's low corner with the outside of the boot.

Dean Rittenberg went close to doubling City's lead just before the break, firing a low shot from a tight angle that Druids 'keeper Michael Jones deflected onto the post, and Fisnik Hajdari then cleared off the line.

Both sides struck the woodwork during the second half. Michael Pritchard had a great chance to level for the Druids. Collecting Matty Owen's deflected cross in the six yard box, the Ancients midfielder took a heavy touch which allowed Matthew Hall to close the angle. By the time Pritchard positioned himself to shoot, he fired wide.

Rittenberg then missed a similarly golden chance to put the game to bed seven minutes from time, racing into the box to meet a cross but somehow hitting the bar from three yards out.

Druids' Nathan Peate then hit the bar in injury time, his header from an Owen corner the visitors last real chance to equalise.

Druids showed much improvement in the second half and will be disappointed not to have left with a point. Up next is Connahs quay in our final league game of the season, we return to The Rock on Friday night 7.30pm.
