Druids impress in 3-1 win over Bala

The weather seemed to get a bit of a head start on the usual April showers at Cefn Mawr this evening as the rain gave both sides a bit of a battering during the course of the game, but still the fans were treated to plenty of action with four goals, a red card and an age of added time to feast upon.

Arek Piskorski made the first real impact on the scoresheet for the home side, as he netted the opener midway through the first half, which must have frustrated Bala’s Colin Caton no-end as his side has created the majority of the chances and had a good share of possession up to that point.

Strangely enough, with Druids building in confidence following the goal and creating a couple of good chances of their own which forced the Lakesiders to make some good clearances or for Ashley Morris to pull off some good saves, it was Bala who had the next goal on 34 minutes and boy was it a worldie, sending one into the top corner from 25 yards! At halftime the scores were level at 1-1.

The visitors had the ball in the back of the net minutes before the restart, as Mike Hayes broke clear and finished well to score what he thought was the goal that would put Bala in front, however the linesman flagged for offside and the goal was chalked off. Moments later the home side went ahead themselves as Matty Owen got his second in two games for Druids when he got on the end of a blocked shot to make it 2-1.

A lengthy injury break following an accidental clash between Andrai Jones and Les Davies saw the game stopped, but both sides continued to create chances afterwards.

Alec Mudimu was shown his marching orders for Druids late-on, and with the nine minutes added on it appeared that Bala may have their chance to draw level, but instead it was Druids who sealed their victory when Mike Pritchard broke clear to make it 3-1 in the last few minutes of stoppage time.

A massive 3 point boost to the Ancients as they look ahead to their next game against Cardiff Met, a win then would certainly bring a 5th place finish into the minds of Druids fans!
