Druids hold out for a point at Park Avenue

The Ancients come away from Park Avenue with a draw that sees them gain a valuable point closer to Welsh Premier safety.

Aberystwyth came out of the blocks quickest and started very strong, having a strong penalty shout turned down by ref Tom Williams in the opening 60 seconds.

The hosts seemed to build momentum and time and time again throughout the 1st half put crosses into dangerous areas for the Druids defence to clear.

Mike Pritchard missed a glorious chance to put the Ancients 1 up. Heading wide Naim Arsan's cross on a great counter attacking move that was inches wide.

Just before the break Druids could of been going in with the lead, but a great save by ex Druids stopper Chris Mullock kept the sides level. Saving with his outstretched foot from a point blank range Ellis Healing shot that fell to him in the box off a corner.

In the 2nd half Aberystwyth cranked up the pressure and saw some desperate defending from the Ancients backline. Michael Jones with a wonderful acrobatic save onto the crossbar, after Luke Borelli's long range curling effort seemed to be flying into the top corner. Borelli then missed a golden chance, who had an open goal at his mercy, after the ball rebounded to him back off the post from a shot, only for him to see his shot deflected over from a wonderful goal line clearance from Adam Hesp.

Even tho we were reduced to 10 men late on after Jordan Barrow received his 2nd yellow card, a robust Druids defence were determined not to be beaten and held on for an impressive 11th clean sheet in the league this season. Our attention now focuses on the next game that is in a fortnight as we travel to Latham Park to take on highflying Newtown.
