Point secured at The Oval!
Anyone in Welsh football knows a trip to The Oval is rarely relished, an old style ground with a hardcore fanbase who can really turn the game in favor of the home side, something Druids experienced on the opening game of last season limping home after losing 1-0.
The cofis had played both TNS & Connahs Quay, securing an impressive point from a daunting opening 2 games. The test would be if the Ancients could continue their starting good form and take something from the game.
Druids got off to a difficult start conceding after only 5 mins to a great header from Darren Thomas, the Ancients struggled through the first half and allowed Caernarfon to dominate possession - A tight well organised back line holding the lead to one goal. (HT: 1-0)
The team jumped into action in the second half with a long range effort by Kershaw swerving its way under the Caernarfon keeper. Following the goal, Druids dropped back and welcomed heavy pressure from the home side, especially late into the second half Caernarfon looked hopeful to take all 3 points. The impressive defensive display, and some great saves by Micheal Jones showed some real Druids grit and determination, the reward was a point, which adds to the Ancients impressive start to the season.
After the game Huw Griffiths commented :- We showed good resilience, the back line and the keeper kept things nicely in order - we didn't keep the ball well enough first half which was disappointing. Second half we got the ball, and got the goal but then dropped back off. So I can see why Caernarfon would be a little disappointed, they had lots of possession and lots of support in our box but our lads stood firm, we were too soft last year here but we certainly weren't this year and we seen the game out.
