The Cymru Premier gets underway with a draw at Latham Park!

The renamed JD Welsh Premier got underway last Friday with an away trip for Druids to Latham Park. The last 5 meetings of these two sides had resulted in draws, but a strong showing by Newtown last season - they finished 5th above Bala Town - looked likely to sway things in the Robins favour.

A lacklustre pre season for Huw Griffiths' boys did little to boost hopes! but the naysayers where shown a greatly improved performance by the Ancients who provided an impressive defensive display matched by some great chances up top. (Ofori making his mark)

Both sides will feel they could have walked away with the 3 points from what was an open and frustrating encounter. Some outstanding saves late in the tie by Michael Jones gave Druids the chance to salvage an impressive point. We must also praise fair and level headed officials, something which we aren't always treated to!

It's a great start to the season and will hopefully prove a stringboard for the next match against Airbus.

After the match Huw Griffiths reflected :-

"We did really well, it was a good disciplined performance, the lads were very disciplined in what they did throughout. Newtown had 65-70 per cent possession in the second-half, but we played a low block and allowed them to have the ball in-front of us, and they didn’t really trouble us too much. Carrots (Mike Jones) has made two really good stops and their goalkeeper has made one, while they had three corners late on that we dealt with. We showed resolve to keep the ball out of our net when we might have gone under last season.
