Bumper crowd at The Rock to welcome Wrexham!

Yesterday Druids got their pre-season underway with a friendly against National League side Wrexham. The match as always attracts alot of attention, as both sides get to show off their summer acquisitions for the first time.

A bumper crowd of 1,300 were there to greet the players on a roasting hot day at The Rock.

The Ancients got the action underway, and in the second minute they were rewarded with a free kick five yards outside the Wrexham box. It was a curling effort which the Wrexham keeper held. Wrexham's first chance came after five minutes when a dangerous cross just drifted over the head of the onrushing Trialist C.

However, the deadlock was broken in the 11th minute, when a throughball from Trialist C split the Druids defence to find Trialist B, and he slotted home from five yards.

Wrexham doubled their lead, when Trialist C was brought down in the penalty area by Simpson,. He made no mistake from the resulting spot kick

Druids' best chance so far came in the 32nd minute when a fierce effort from Ryan Kershaw stung the fingers of Christian Dibble, who parried it away to safety.

Half Time: Cefn Druids 0 - 3 Wrexham FC

Both sides came out second half with vastly changes sides, Druids fielding a number of youth players. Wrexham were first to draw blood, Akil Wright beat Jones from short range, scoring Wrexham's fourth.

The one sided scoreline failed to tell the story of the second half. Cefn Druids kept the pressure on the visitors, and Charlie Edge was unlucky when his speculative 30 yard strike was tipped over the bar at the last minute by Trialist D.

In the dying seconds of the game, Druids drew another fingertip save out of Trialist D, but their clean sheet remained intact despite an impressive second half performance by the Ancients with special comment for Michael Jones who put on a superb performance against his former side.
