Our under 16's have just  been crowned champions of the FAW academy north section. The academy cup this year had a brand new format to it, competing were TNS, Llandudno, Airbus UK, GAP Connahs Quay, Bangor City, Rhyl, Porthmadog , Colwyn Bay, Conwy Borough, Bala Town, Newtown, Flint Town Utd, Prestatyn and Caernarfon Town.

The season started with 3 groups of 5 teams, the top 2 teams from each group would then form a Super six league with the remaining clubs playing in a conference league. Cefn Druids finished second to favourites TNS but ment qualification to the super six was secured.

The super six league consisted of TNS , Cefn Druids, Llandudno, Airbus UK, Bangor City and GAP Connahs Quay, to qualify to the semi finals a top 4 finish was needed. Our boys played the first 3 games losing to Llandudno Town 0-4 , TNS 4-5 and GAP 0-3. November seen us pick up our first 3 points beating Airbus UK at home 1-0, wins against Bangor ( home and away) Llandudno and GAP Connahs Quay confirmed a top 4 finish.

The semi final seen our boys pair up with favourites TNS at the Venue, 1-1 after extra time seen the game go to penalties, our boys came out on top winning 4-1 on sending a big message over wales our progression in this years cup.

The Northern Final game paired us with Airbus UK at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium, 0-0 , extra time required, Centre back Fin Williams with a 25 yard effort sealed our win to become the first Cefn Druids academy side in history  to win a FAW academy north section cup

Our boys now face either Cambrian & Clydach, Risca or Haverfordwest County in May to have a chance of becoming welsh champions.

Coaches Phil Bathers and Josh Millington spoke after the final saying:

"these players have only been in the academy system for 3 years and we have competed against opposition who have been together from 9-10 years of age, this is great testament to our group of players, since November and after the  first 3 games in which we lost, our boys have just turned it round, their hard work and commitment in training and their desire to develop and improve as footballers is so refreshing to see its a pleasure coaching them, they deserve to have a chance of becoming welsh academy champions"

Congratulations to the all the lads and coaches, again showing the progression and development at Cefn Druids AFC.
